About The Luminous Community Center
The Luminous Community Center is a monumental luminous glass pavilion, a traveling work of architectural public art, a “third space” for our multicultural communities to connect and build positive change.
The Luminous Community Center debuts May 1, 2028, in South Central Los Angeles in an historic public park, the South Park Recreation Center, where it will be hosted for one year, followed by its ongoing tour across the country and around the world.
The Luminous Community Center is the work of Black/Jewish native Angeleno artist Nikolas Soren Goodich. South Central LA is where the Black side of Goodich's family settled in 1882, after escaping the horrors of the Jim Crow South.
Measuring 20 ft tall and 40 ft square, the Luminous Community Center is a 1600 sq ft space built out of kiln fired glass and plexiglass panels using Goodich’s own hybrid painting and printmaking techniques. Each 20 ft by 20 ft wall and ceiling panel is edge lit in frames embedded with LED lights.
Installed in Los Angeles, concurrent with the Olympics, the Luminous Community Center will host hundreds of events in 2028-2029 organized by a Community Advisory Committee composed of South LA residents and others from LA County. Event programming is built around the shared political, social, economic, and cultural goals of local community members.
In 2029-2030 the Luminous Community Center will be hosted in Washington D.C., and in 2030-2031 in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York. The LCC is available for national and international bookings from 2031 onward.
